OUR STORY
Trevor’s Hope began with a question every parent of a child with a disability carries quietly for a lifetime — and a decision to do something about it.
It started with Trevor.
Trevor is an adult with an intellectual disability. He has his own small business mowing yards, his own friends, his own routines — a life he’s proud of. Like any of us, what he wants is simple: people who know him, a place that’s his, and a reason to look forward to tomorrow.
But for parents of an adult child with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), one fear never fully goes away: what happens to our child when we’re no longer here to care for them? It’s the thought that surfaces at every birthday, every holiday, every time they’re sick or sad. For most families, the honest answer is uncertainty — waiting lists, distant institutions, or the hope that a sibling can shoulder a lifetime of care that was never theirs to carry.
Trevor’s Hope exists because that answer isn’t good enough. We decided that the best future for our children is one we build ourselves — and one we build now, while we still can.
What Trevor’s Hope is.
Trevor’s Hope is a nonprofit program of Legacy for the Generations, a registered 501(c)(3) organization based in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Our mission is to raise the funds to build permanent, supportive homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities — and to walk alongside the families who love them.
We are not a housing operator, and we are not a clinic. We describe ourselves honestly as a community mobilizer and funding partner. Our job is to bring a community together — families, churches, businesses, and neighbors — to make these homes possible, and to make sure every dollar raised is stewarded with care and full transparency.
How the partnership works.
Trevor’s Hope raises and stewards the funds. Our partner, Jeremiah’s Promise — a program built by parents, for adults with IDD — operates the homes, providing the daily care, structure, and community that turns a house into a true home.
This is a deliberate division of labor. Jeremiah’s Promise already knows these adults by name and has spent years building a safe, supportive day program where they thrive. Pairing their care with our fundraising means families get the best of both: people who already love their children, and the resources to give those children a place to call their own.
Legacy for the Generations governs the funds through its board, so giving to Trevor’s Hope means giving through an established 501(c)(3) with real accountability behind it.
What we believe.
We believe a diagnosis doesn’t define a person. Adults with IDD have personalities, talents, opinions, and the same need for dignity, purpose, and belonging as anyone else. They deserve more than to be cared for — they deserve to thrive.
We believe families shouldn’t have to walk this road alone, and that no parent should lie awake fearing what comes next without a plan and a community behind them.
And we believe the most trustworthy people to build a home for these adults are the parents who want for them exactly what we want for our own.

We’re at the beginning — and we’re honest about that. Today, families can connect with us for support, community, and help navigating resources. Our immediate work is raising the funds for the very first home: a house for four adults with IDD and a full-time caregiver, right here in Middle Tennessee.
