"My name is Sonya. My husband, Kurt, and I are parents to Zack and Dylan. Zack has Autism and an intellectual disability such that he has required a lot of oversight and help. We have always felt that it was our responsibility to do the best of our ability to help Zack learn as much as he could and be as independent as he could be. That is not always an easy road to navigate. Along the way we had to pivot and let go of some dreams for him and find new ones.

And now, as my husband and I age, we are planning Zack's future that includes the inevitable absence of us. This is such a hard thought. Every Christmas, every birthday, every time he is sick or sad, our concern is 'will someone care for him and love him the way we do?' To be honest, we don't know. We have to trust the God who loves Zack more than we can fathom, AND make the best plans we can for him.

And that is why Trevor's Hope and Jeremiah's Promise are partnering…to create a full life, a future for adults with IDD. To create hope for them and peace for us family members that they will be cared for with kind, caring, Godly values. I want my son will be valued as one made in God's image, like we all are, and cared for accordingly. I want Zack to have a life he is excited about. One that includes his opinions and desires, and where he is surrounded by friends and people that care about him. I want him to have things to look forward to and have purpose to his days. It's a life he has trouble finding all on his own, but that is what we are working so hard to help him build."
